Essex
Crewmember PBE Shipping Information
The Essex PBE is the safest and easiest to ship PBE on the
market today. It can be shipped quickly overnight by air
or by ground on both passenger and commercial aircraft.
Our safe PBE provides all users the most flexible option in
transporting PBEs around the world at a much lower cost than
our competitors.
Our competitors PBEs use chemical oxygen
generators which have more stringent hazards, increasing shipping
cost and can not be shipped by next day air.
A letter was sent to all of our customers
on the Feb 27, 2004 to notify them of a "Change in the
Proper Shipping Name."

Feb 29, 2000)
Dear Sir or Madam,
As an Essex PB&R customer, this letter is to inform you
of a "Notification of Proper Shipping Name Change" for our Crewmember
Protective Breathing Equipment (PBE), Self-Contained Units (SCU),
and Victim Rescue Units (VRU) product lines. Please distribute
this notice to your hazardous material shipping, engineering,
and purchasing departments immediately .
This change is a result of discussions
between Essex PB&R
and the United States Department of Transportation properly classifying
our product as "Life saving devices, not self-inflating, UN3072".
Please note that the attached MSDS have been updated to reflect
the below change.
Change from: "Oxygen,
compressed, UN1072 and Corrosive solid, n.o.s. (anhydrous lithium
hydroxide), UN1759"
Change to: "Life
saving appliances, not self-inflating, UN3072"
Your immediate attention to this matter
will result in providing you multiple shipping options at reduced
cost to best suit your company's needs. Questions should be directed
to myself at waynekerly@essexind.com
